Learning Observed

Kiko was given the topic of her ‘family’ and was asked to tell the LC anything and everything about her family, who was in it and whatever they wanted to tell us about their family because they are the ones who know their families, the LC doesn’t. Kiko wrote a story about her family, telling us about what her mum and dad do for her.

Evidence of learning

Kiko has written a fantastic story about her family. I like the way she has tried to sound out the tricky words!

Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Kiko is developing her Capabilities in writing. She was able to independently write her own story (Managing Self). Kiko wrote a story about her family, telling her reader all about what her family do for her, including the who and what (Using Language, Symbols and Text). Kiko tried to sound out difficult and unfamiliar words on her own and recorded the sounds in the order she could hear them in and wrote most high frequency words correctly (Thinking).

Next Learning Steps

Use capital letters and full stops correctly. Continue to sound out and record tricky words. Share learning with home.

During our Maths lesson Kiko was given a number board to practice counting. She can count in tens to 100, and is learning to count in 5’s to 50 and 2’s to 20.

I wonder if Kiko does counting or number work at home too?

Kiko is developing her Capabilities in Maths.  She is able to use equipment correctly (Managing Self and Thinking).  She can count and read numbers (Using Language, Symbols and Text).

Use the number board independently to practice counting in 2’s and 5’s Chose other Math learning games and equipment to extend her number knowledge Share learning at home or with her peers

Narrative Assessment - Developmental - 23 February 2016

Learning Observed

Today during our ‘Developmental’ session, Kiko and Jessica were working together to construct a building with the Duplo blocks.  As the building took shape, they talked about what they wanted to put where, as well as how they wanted the building to look.  There was discussion about how to group the colours for the curved edged and how many blocks to put on the top.

Evidence of learning

Kiko and Jessica were very pleased with the finished result of their building.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles

Kiko collaborated with a partner to design and create this building.  She demonstrated capability when problems arose, e.g. blocks didn’t fit properly or her chosen block had already been used.  Kiko was ‘Managing Self’ to work independently with a partner to complete an activity and pack away the materials when she had finished.
