Learning Observed:
This session is the third of four week sessions of tennis for the learners habitat. Each session is 30 minutes with coach Marcel from AceSports on a Thursday. Tennis is a competitive sport in New Zealand that has two players. A player has to hit the tennis ball over the net back and forth to their competitor. The object of the sport is to win the set or until you reach a tie breaker.

Kiko has been learning to hold and use a racket correctly to hit a tennis ball. She has been practicing balancing the tennis ball on her racket without dropping it. During this session, Kiko practiced without the racket first and transferred those skills to then, using a racket. She has also been learning to hit the tennis ball over the net to a buddy.

Key Competencies/ Vision Principles:

During this learning, Kiko demonstrated that she was:
  • Connected - actively taking part in physical and education activities.
  • Capable - developing skills to play tennis
  • Collaborative - working with others to hit the tennis ball over the net
  • Thinking  - listening carefully to instructions and learning how to apply them

Next Learning Steps:
Continue learning motor skills of holding the racquet and hitting the ball accurately and with control.

Get Set Go Narrative Assessment

Learner: Kiko              Learning Coach: T Morgan                Date: 27th October 2016
Learning Area: iExperience - Physical Education/Health
Learning Observed
Today we had Get Set Go, a sports programme, come to our school. Coach Cameron taught us a whole lot of new games like walk the plank - where we had to walk along the lines on the court and there were two pirates with noodle swords who would tag us, and red light-green light- where different colours meant we had to do different things to try and make our way to the end of the court. It was so much fun!
Evidence of learning
Get Set Go Movie

We are learning to move and balance in all different ways. Watch me play red light-green light!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
I am developing my Capabilities in Physical Education. I was able remember and tell Coach Cameron what the 3 rules were 1) when Coach Cameron is talking, we are listening, 2) when the whistle blows we freeze, and 3) we must have fun! (Managing Self). I took turns at being the “police officer” that checked for people who were moving when they should be frozen, offering my second turn to someone who hadn’t already had a turn (Relating to Others). I had fun learning all the games Coach Cameron taught us and especially playing them (Participating and Contributing).
Next Learning Steps
  • Always have my hat at school to wear for iBreaks and Get Set Go.
  • Play the game with your peers
  • Think of one way we could change this game (maybe one colour we could add with an action).

Writing Narrative Assessment

Learner: Kiko                Learning Coach: Talia Morgan        Date: 19th August 2016
Learning Area: iDevelop - Writing
Learning Observed
Kiko was given the topic of her ‘family’ and was asked to tell the LC anything and everything about her family, who was in it and whatever they wanted to tell us about their family because they are the ones who know their families, the LC doesn’t. Kiko wrote a story about her family, telling us about what her mum and dad do for her.
Evidence of learning

Kiko has written a fantastic story about her family. I like the way she has tried to sound out the tricky words!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Kiko is developing her Capabilities in writing. She was able to independently write her own story (Managing Self). Kiko wrote a story about her family, telling her reader all about what her family do for her, including the who and what (Using Language, Symbols and Text). Kiko tried to sound out difficult and unfamiliar words on her own and recorded the sounds in the order she could hear them in and wrote most high frequency words correctly (Thinking).
Next Learning Steps
  • Use capital letters and full stops correctly.
  • Continue to sound out and record tricky words.
  • Share learning with home.
